Can Diabetics Eat Roti, Biryani, or Rice? The South Asian Guide

Many South Asian patients are told to stop rice or roti completely. That advice is too simple. The real issue is portion, pairing, timing, and activity.

Whole wheat roti is often better than refined naan. Basmati or brown rice can work in measured portions when paired with daal, vegetables, chicken, fish, yogurt, or salad.

Biryani can be occasional and controlled. A smaller plate with raita and salad is different from a large portion with soda and dessert. A 10 to 15 minute walk after meals can help.
